Spirulina is a blue-green algae, known as a cyanobacteria, which naturally grows on the surface of ponds using the sun to flourish.

It is thought to have been a source of sustenance in 16th century Mexico and has been used for centuries in South America.

Tecuitlatl was the name given to it by the Aztec’s which means the, “excrement of the stone”. This extremely nutrient dense food is a great source of vitamin B1, B-2, B-3, B-6, B-9, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E.

On top of this, it contains calcium, potassium, copper, chromium, iron, zinc magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, and sodium.

Spirulina is being investigated internationally to confront issues of malnutrition and as a dietary supplement to assist in long-term space missions.

It is important to note that it has a strong harsh taste and it doesn’t really get any easier to take over time. It is best to go with the pill form if you don’t think you can handle it.
