Ginko Biloba (Salisburia adiantifolia) has traditionally been used in China to heal general ailments for thousands of years.

In rock layers some 270 million years old, researchers uncovered fossils of ancient trees with outlines of detailed fan-shaped leaves.

Some of these fossils were easily identifiable and thought to have the same as the leaves as the tree known as Ginko Biloba.

It is the only living surviving member of the Ginko genus.

In the 11th century, Buddhist monks began cultivating Ginko and it became known to them as a highly revered sacred plant. The use of Ginko leaf is first mentioned in a book titled, “Lan Mao’s Dian Nan Ben Cao” (The Pharmaceutical Natural History of Southern Yunnan). The leaves were prepared and used on the body to treat sores and wounds and consumed to strengthen the lungs and mind.
