Matcha

Matcha, the powdered version of green tea, has its origins in the latter part of the 12th century where the process of taking steam-prepared dried tea leaves and crushing them into a powder first took place.

Zen Buddhists were known to regularly farm and cultivate the green tea plant in order to use it in their rituals. The first form of Matcha used by the Zen Buddhists was known as Sencha.

Later, by growing the green tea plant under certain areas with more shade resulted in maximizing the medicinal benefits of what came to now be known as Matcha.

The Zen Buddhists became very aware of the benefits of Matcha green tea, they have said it brings them a greater sense of clarity and awareness.

In the West, Matcha has been extensively researched and is now valued for its powerful antioxidant properties.
